Jane is the first female CEO of Freemasons Victoria and has been tasked with leading the men’s-only club through the biggest overhaul in its Australian history. She has built an impressive reputation enabling change. She worked at VicHealth back when smoking was fashionable and glamorous, Southbank when the left bank of the river was disheveled and full of car yards and warehouses, then at Federation Square when it was widely regarded as an ugly white elephant.
She came to these roles as a trained general and psychiatric nurse with academic qualifications from Monash University – BA (Hons) Sociology and MA Communications, and is a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors and Leadership Victoria. Community contributions have included Chair Health Issues Centre and Committee of Management Centre for Grief Education.

Freemasons Victoria is a 127-year-old organisation steeped in history and intrigue. Membership is both ageing and dwindling so Freemasons Victoria were eager to understand how to modernise the brand experience in order to appeal to “Todays Man”, without alienating or upsetting current members.
While some of the shroud of secrecy surrounding Freemasonry has been lifted in recent times, one thing has not changed. Women are still not allowed to join. Getting Past the Secret Handshake, will take you on the journey of how Freemasons Victoria’s first female CEO, and BrandHook overcame the challenges of handling sensitive information, engaging stakeholders, ensuring anonymity and understanding the ‘secrets’ of an organisation that we are not even allowed to join.
